A shocking revelation has emerged about the cause of the massive sinkhole that shook Melbourne earlier this year. The incident, which forced the closure of a beloved sporting ground, has been attributed to a controversial pressure test conducted by tunnel workers.
The sinkhole appeared at AJ Burkitt Oval, a well-known sports venue in Melbourne's northeast, near the massive North East Link tunnel project. Locals gathered to witness the aftermath, with police and council workers quickly securing the area.
But here's where it gets controversial... According to authorities, a pressure test performed by the tunnel workers destabilized the ground, leading to the formation of an eight-meter sinkhole. Paul Roth, Interim CEO of VIDA Roads, a government body overseeing the tunnel project, stated that the test "should not have taken place."
Roth addressed the media, expressing deep disappointment and acknowledging the community's shared frustration. He assured, however, that the incident would not impact the $26 billion tunnel project's timeline or budget.

Roth explained that the crew had planned to push through this complex patch and conduct the test, which ultimately caused the sinkhole.
