Curnow, a dual Coleman Medallist, left Carlton, where he was contracted until 2029, to join the Sydney Swans, a team seeking a swift return to the top after missing out on the 2025 finals.
In an exclusive interview with foxsports.com.au, Curnow, now an ambassador for Kayo Sports, reflected on his decision. "I learned a lot about myself in the last six months of 2025," he said. "I recognized the need for change in my life, and I felt I had to take a chance and make it happen."
But here's where it gets controversial... Curnow's move sparked a seismic trade, with the Swans giving up three first-round draft picks and goalkicker Will Hayward. And this is the part most people miss: it indirectly involved Ollie Florent too.
Curnow, now settled in Sydney with his partner Tiana, admits missing home and his former Carlton teammates. "It's a full change of life," he said. "But I'm loving it."
The New Family: Curnow was nervous about joining a new AFL club, but the Swans' welcoming environment put him at ease. "It's like having a new family," he explained. "You fast-track friendships, and it's an instant connection with different people and places."
